Tom Ortiz is the owner of Sierra General, a real estate development company primarily focused on small to mid-size commercial and industrial projects. Sierra General provides finance build to suits, up to $50 Million, for credit tenants in the commercial real estate sector.
Mr. Ortiz is also co-founder of BIONIC LLC. BIONIC is a building system, which will allow builders to dramatically lower build time and cost.
With over twenty-five years in the construction, development, and logistics industry, Mr. Ortiz has a strong and proven background in business development, project development, project financing, team building and leadership, construction, marketing, and project sales. In addition, Mr. Ortiz has been involved in the construction of several large mining projects in Nevada and Utah, as well as, project management of a 2-year construction project with Bechtel. This position included logistical services and building and developing mining man camps in Nevada and Arizona. Mr. Ortiz also has experience in power systems and generation projects, including construction management for a 3-megawatt co-generation power plant in Fernley, Nevada.
In 2005, his company built the largest private lake yacht on Lake Tahoe, Nevada/California. Christened the “Sierra Rose”, this vessel was constructed off site in Nevada and built in three sections and transported over 100 miles. The yacht is 110 feet long, 3 stories tall (with a helicopter pad), and weighs in at 250 tons. This project was constructed start to finish in less than one year.
Mr. Ortiz has a wide range of business experience, including a scrap recycling, buying, selling, and processing facility. Selling metals in foreign and domestic markets and also included a demolition division, Mr. Ortiz co-founded this company and eventually sold it to a publicly traded company in 1998. Additionally he was Sub-Franchisor (Area Developer) for Blimpie Subs & Salads in three western states, building over 60 stores; a Nevada Licensed general contractor 1998-2010; Licensed NV realtor; and has provided logistics planning and development; Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Real Estate Construction and Development to many companies and individuals.
Proud to be a native Nevadan, Mr. Ortiz graduated from McQueen high School in Reno and then attended Pierce Junior College in Los Angeles CA, from
1985-1986, University of Nevada Reno, from 1986-1990
