Kenneth B. Krater, President


As President, Mr. Krater brings substantial expertise to a broad range of subjects including land development, project management, community development, due diligence, transportation engineering, traffic engineering, civil engineering, transportation planning and land planning functions having worked on numerous multi-disciplinary projects throughout his 30 year career. Mr. Krater has extensive experience in both the public and private sector managing complex award winning transportation projects as well as large scale residential, industrial, commercial, and mixed use development projects. Mr. Krater is actively involved in creating the vision for a new project, preparing conceptual designs, managing the due diligence process, entitling projects through the discretionary review process, coordinating final design, managing the project through construction, and property management. Mr. Krater excels in both oral and written communications having made hundreds of presentations to governing bodies, technical and non-profit organizations, and neighborhood groups. In June 2005 Mr. Krater formed a second company, MTK Limited, LLC, and successfully manages a $40M+ portfolio of properties having developed, leased, and sold over 100,000 sq. ft. of retail, office, and mixed use space through one of the worst recessions in decades.

 

Mr. Krater serves as secretary of Reno’s Downtown Reno Partnership, Chair of the Economic and Corporate Development Committee for the University of Nevada, Reno College of Engineering Advisory Board, is a long standing member of the University of Nevada Reno Civil Engineering Advisory Board, and serves as the Chair of Operation Downtown, formed to address blight, addiction, mental health and homelessness in downtown Reno. Mr. Krater has always been active in his community serving on the Reno Planning Commission, Reno Board of Adjustment, Reno Historical Resources Commission, and an officer of numerous professional societies and technical committees. Mr. Krater holds designations as a licensed civil engineer in Nevada & California and has received many awards through the years including an Award of Merit for Preparation of the Douglas County 2020 Transportation Plan and Transportation Project of the Year for the US 395 Clear Acre/Sutro Interchange Complex. 

 

Prior to forming Krater Consulting Group, Mr. Krater was employed by CH2M Hill as a Senior Technologist in Transportation Engineering with responsibilities of business development, sales and marketing, project manager for multi-discipline transportation projects, and regional technology leader for transportation planning – Southwest Region of the United States. Mr. Krater started his career working for the City of Reno as the Traffic Design Engineer designing traffic signals and roadway capacity improvement projects. Mr. Krater also developed Reno’s Roadway Impact Fee Program and used state of the art capacity analysis software to analyze planned interchanges for the Nevada Department of Transportation. 

 

A native of Reno, Nevada and graduate of Reno High School, he earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. He and his wife, Vicki reside in Reno and have three grown children.
